Rockstar Games has revealed that Midnight Club: Los Angeles will receive its first public playtest this weekend when the 2008 DUB Tour lands in the city the game is based on. The “exclusive demo” features the Saleen 302E and players will have the chance to win game merchandise.

After that, the tour moves to other cities, but it will only feature the Rockstar Games booth when it visits Houston, San Jose and San Diego in August and September.

More info is available on the Dub Show Tour website.

Gamespot managed to grab four new videos of Motorstorm: Pacific Rift in action and delivered all of them on their site yesterday. Check out the first of the set above and then jump over to this page to check out the rest.

Five new Race Pro shots

SimBin unleashed the latest images of Race Pro today, bringing with them the first appearance of Brands Hatch in a console game for some time. Check out the shots, featuring WTCC and Caterham below:

Rockstar just unleashed a brand new trailer of Midnight Club: Los Angeles and it’s looking very impressive indeed. Clearly this trailer is based on the PS3 or Xbox 360 version of the game but a PSP version with the subtitle “Remix” is also on the way.

I was most impressed by the way Rockstar San Diego has managed to get the rims looking so shiny and I haven’t seen as accurate a Pizza Hut rendition as that since I first fell in love with Crazy Taxi in an arcade in Spain.

System 3’s Ferrari Challenge has proved popular since it was eventually released for PS3. However, fans who had been following the game’s progress on its official website will note that some of the promised tracks there didn’t make it into the final release of the game.

The precise reason for this remains unclear but it seems they will eventually be hitting your PS3 as DLC. Brands Hatch, Hungaroring, Laguna Seca, Donnington, Suzuka, Catalunya and Monaco will all be coming to the game with a couple of others which the company isn’t prepared to announce yet.

EA broke with recent tradition last year with Need for Speed: Prostreet, its circuit based, partially story-driven racer. However, it seems that departure isn’t going to last and the brand new teaser trailer for the next game in the series, Undercover, seems to promise a return to dimly lit city streets.

The website linked in the video will open tomorrow at WhichRoadToTake.com.

If you’re in North America you’ll possibly be pleased to learn that Sony has finally launched its Greatest hits line of games today. The new branding will be applied to a series of older games and racing fans will be interested to know that both Motorstorm and Need for Speed Carbon are included.

The cheaper games can be easily identified by their new bright red cases and they retail for US$30 apiece.

Sony Liverpool’s Wipeout HD seems like it has been in development forever, but the company finally released some good news about its game today. A SCEE representative told TVG that the game will support PS3’s trophies, making it potentially the first driving game to do so.

Also confirmed today was that the game will include a full 2 player offline split screen option, something which has become a rarity in this era of online play. It’s especially commendable to see this in a title which is being distributed exclusively online via the PlayStation Store.

The release date is still no clearer and we’ll have to make do with the “this year” estimate provided at E3.

System 3 has announced the details of the first pack of downloadable content for its single-manufacturer game, Ferrari Challenge: Trofeo Pirelli. According to Eurogamer, the pack will include the Nurburgring F1 circuit (but not the legendary Nordschleife) and five new cars which of course are all emblazoned with the prancing horse.

Among the new cars will be the Enzo Ferrari, a car which many may argue should have been included from the start. Alongside this there’s the recently released F430 Scuderia and a blast from the past with the P4. The bigger and heavier end of Ferrari’s line is also represented with the 612 Scaglietti and the more modern 599 Fiorano.

The pack is supposedly coming at the end of August and will be for the PlayStation 3 version of the game only.

Wipeout HD delayed

One of my most anticipated games coming to PS3 this year is Wipeout HD, the next-gen update to a game which I’ve always thought had F-Zero cornered. Originally slated for release some time this summer (and with fans salivating as it gets warmer and warmer outside) it looked like being one of the first PSN-only games worth buying.

Unfortunately, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe’s boss David Reeves has revealed that we’re going to have to wait a while longer for it. A “really, really tricky technical problem” means that the game now has a release window stretching to the end of the year.
