Evolution Studios has revealed the next two major downloadable expansions for Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. The first is called “Speed” and includes three new tracks, three new variants on the old tracks and four new vehicles. Adrenaline is the name of the second and it contains another three tracks, five more variants, four new vehicles and six new characters.
The first pack includes new trophies and rewards but there’s no word on pricing for either expansion just yet.
Yesterday’s PlayStation Store update wasn’t as significant as last week’s but racing game fans should now finally be able to get some DLC for Ferrari Challenge.
For £4.49/€4.99 the Track and Car Pack includes the Nurburgring Grand Prix Circuit along with the 599 GTB, Enzo, 430 Scuderia, 612 Sessanta and the F330 P4. The track is available for £2.89/€2.99 on its own, while each car can also be purchased for £1.29/€1.49 individually.
Electronic Arts has released the final list of tracks and cars that will feature in Need for Speed SHIFT when it hits stores in September. The cover art (yet to be revealed) will feature the BMW M3 GT2, which they’ve also released a few more screenshots of today.
The track list is an interesting mix of unknown and legendary circuits as well as some fictional street circuits, including London and Tokyo. There are a huge number of Nissan cars included as well as one of the first outings for the Bugatti Veyron in a console game. Full lists after the jump.
Disney has revealed the E3 trailer for its forthcoming street racer Split/Second a few days before the show begins in Los Angeles. Again, we’re not treated to any gameplay footage but it seems that each circuit will have a variety of different objects and buildings to fiddle with as the racing progresses.
Sega have just announced the first Sonic driving game in a long time – Sonic & Sega All Stars Racing. The game is similar to Sega Superstars Tennis in that it lets you take control of a variety of characters from Sega games of the past, including Sonic, Tails, AiAi, Dr. Eggman and Amigo and race on circuits inspired by the games. It’s coming to Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and Nintendo DS early next year. Players will have the choice of cars, planes and motorbikes in a similar fashion to the Nintendo 64 title Diddy Kong Racing.
Of course there are powerups and weapons to disrupt the action and each character has their own “All Star Move” which will no doubt allow for some serious rubber-banding. Split screen and online multiplayer modes are also confirmed for inclusion. A semi-guarantee of quality comes from the news that Sumo Digital are developing the game. The first screenshots and a pre-rendered trailer have been released:
Sony has announced a new wave of PS3 Greatest Hits titles to launch in North America and Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is among them. From June 16th players will be able to get the game for $29.99, complete with a new Greatest Hits boxart and red disc case.
The latest website to get some time looking at F1 2009 is Eurogamer and a new two page preview has been published this morning. As with IGN, they seem to be impressed by the wide array of assists and difficulty settings, but describe the visuals as being like an “average PS2 game”. According to writer Johnny Minkley, the data for the game was frozen just after the Spanish Grand Prix, which should mean that Brawn GP and Red Bull Racing are at the front, with the tail end made up by Toro Rosso and Force India.
Codemasters claims that a big focus in the new games will be avoiding TV-style presentation. It’s an interesting choice, given the mediocrity of the HUD they’ve managed to create, and they say that there will be less in-race commentary and much more input from your race engineer. A Logitech steering wheel will be supported (but does anyone want to buy one for this single game?) alongside many different controller options. Interestingly, the Gamecube controller is not listed as a possible option.
Codemasters confirmed yesterday that FUEL will miss its intended release date by a week, with the game now hitting store shelves on June 5th. The open-world game will be available for both Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, and its environment won developer Asobo a Guiness World Record for its sheer magnitude. EDGE described the map as being “as big as Northern Ireland”.
