EA has unleashed a set of new screenshots of its upcoming MMO, Need for Speed: World today. Previously known as Need for Speed: World Online, the game is scheduled for release later this quarter, although a specific date hasn’t yet been announced. The new images provide a good look at the environment that’s being used in the game, which includes cities from previous titles in the series. The customisation tools that made earlier games so successful make a return for World:
In a somewhat unexpected move, a demo of Black Rock Studio’s Split/Second Velocity appeared on Xbox Live this morning. The 880MB download includes the game’s infamous airport circuit, complete with all of the powerplays and destruction it has to offer in the full game. There isn’t a car choice in the demo but there is a chance to sample the ingeniously located HUD.
The demo is available now to all Xbox Live members but won’t appear on the PlayStation Store (for PS3) until May 11th.
After a few whispers and leaks, Atari today confirmed that Test Drive Unlimited 2 is in development for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The game is set in the Spanish island of Ibiza, in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. Early details are scarce, but Eden Games (developer of the first in the series) has returned to craft the sequel. The huge open world system returns and is touted as M.O.O.R. – Massively Open Online Racing. New race types, vehicles and challenges are promised. First screenshots:
Today’s Blur news is both good and bad. The bad is that Activision is clearing the decks to make way for the release of Modern Warfare 2 and as a result, Blur will now not go on sale until early 2010. The good news is that there’s now some boxart to look at, and it’s very pretty (and very Wipeout) indeed. Full image after the jump. Continue Reading »
Electronic Arts COO John Pleasants has revealed that one of the next Need for Speed games will be developed by Criterion Games. The studio is best known for its Burnout franchise and the latest entry – Burnout Paradise – was well known for its vast environment and polished online modes. EA says that it is looking to capitalise on this experience by tasking Criterion with development of an online-centric Need for Speed title.
Konami have released images of the four cars included in the new downloadable car pack for GTI Club+. It’s quite strange seeing these modern vehicles in the classic game environment, but I think it works very well. Check out the Vokswagen, Fiat, Peugeot and Mini below:
Today’s PlayStation Store update brought good news for owners of GTI Club+ as the first downloadable car pack launched for the game. For £2.39/€2.99 you get a BMW Mini Cooper, Volkswagen Polo GTi, Abarth (Fiat) 500 and Peugeot 207 GT.
The new Race Pro downloadable content includes the most recent revisions to the Imola circuit, a new gameplay video has shown. The most significant change from previous versions of the track is the removal of the final chicane, making the main straight significantly longer. It is believed that this is the first time the new Imola has appeared in a video game officially.
In a surprise move Sony today released the first trailer for Gran Turismo 5. The pre-rendered video – described as a “concept movie” on the game’s website – includes confirmation that the game will feature licensed content from both the FIA World Rally Championship and NASCAR. Car damage is also briefly shown but players will have to wait a while to race as a release window has not yet been announced.
To celebrate the announcement of Forza Motorsport 3, Turn 10 is offering visitors to its blog a free in-game Audi S4 for the previous version when they add a comment to this post. In addition, those who own the December Car Pack should keep an eye on the store as they will be adding dirt cheap Audi R8s on a regular basis.
Both cars have a custom Forza Motorsport 3 livery and are specially tuned ready for use on the track.
