In a somewhat unexpected move, a demo of Black Rock Studio’s Split/Second Velocity appeared on Xbox Live this morning. The 880MB download includes the game’s infamous airport circuit, complete with all of the powerplays and destruction it has to offer in the full game. There isn’t a car choice in the demo but there is a chance to sample the ingeniously located HUD.

The demo is available now to all Xbox Live members but won’t appear on the PlayStation Store (for PS3) until May 11th.

Disney has revealed the E3 trailer for its forthcoming street racer Split/Second a few days before the show begins in Los Angeles. Again, we’re not treated to any gameplay footage but it seems that each circuit will have a variety of different objects and buildings to fiddle with as the racing progresses.

Disney Interactive Studios has just announced that the next title to be released by Black Rock Studio will be Split/Second. It’s drastically different to Pure (the company’s last game) and is described as an ”action-racing game where speed meets strategy in a city rigged for destruction.”

It seems that the game will be presented in TV show style and there will be plenty of powerups to mess around with the racing. Release is currently planned for 2010 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
