Eutechnyx and System 3 have announced their next title, Ferrari: The Race Experience will be hitting PlayStation 3 and Wii on September 16th. The game is believed to be a reworked version of Ferrari Challenge: Trofeo Pirelli and will include all of the cars and tracks from that game, including all of its DLC. Additionally, Ferrari’s new 548 Italia and 599XX will make an appearance.
The title will be available exclusively as a digital download on PS3 and features “brand new street and racing circuits” and a new career mode. This new singleplayer mode is split into three categories – GT Race, Road GT and Classic Cars. GT Race features Ferrari’s race cars, such as the F430 Challenge and aforementioned 599XX, Road GT is filled with the company’s top tourers such as the California and Classic Cars will feature a variety of Ferrari models from the past.
The Newcastle-based developer of Ferrari Challenge and Supercar Challenge, Eutechnyx, has announced that it has secured £6m of funding from a Dutch venture capital firm. The company says that the cash will “help finalise the development of a new title set to revolutionise the racing genre”, but didn’t provide any further details. CEO Brian Jobling says that he is “thrilled” with the investment which will also help the development of a “significant new licensed game”.
Just like Codemasters, System 3 appears to be celebrating this weekend’s British Grand Prix and has released some new videos of SuperCar Challenge in action. One of the videos is part of a series involving community members demonstrating the game, while the other features the voice of Tiff Needell, who has become synonymous with the series.
System 3 has confirmed that SuperCar Challenge will no longer be releasing in two weeks time. Instead, the game has been pushed back and is now scheduled to launch on Friday, August 21st across Europe. No precise reason has been given for the delay.
With just three weeks to go until SuperCar Challenge hits store shelves in Europe, System 3 has released a new batch of screenshots of the game. This time there’s a chance to get a good look at the relatively new Ferrari California in an unusual sky blue colour along with cars from Koenigsegg and McLaren. There’s some traditional Ferrari action as well with the F50 GT.
Today also marks the revelation of two further tracks from the game. Vallelunga already appeared in Ferrari Challenge but Rivera is a brand new fictional circuit created specifically for Supercar Challenge. The game’s official website has been updated with videos of the two tracks and Rivera looks like a combination of Macau and Monaco.
Yesterday’s PlayStation Store update wasn’t as significant as last week’s but racing game fans should now finally be able to get some DLC for Ferrari Challenge.
For £4.49/€4.99 the Track and Car Pack includes the Nurburgring Grand Prix Circuit along with the 599 GTB, Enzo, 430 Scuderia, 612 Sessanta and the F330 P4. The track is available for £2.89/€2.99 on its own, while each car can also be purchased for £1.29/€1.49 individually.
YouTube user Lemonoustfreshener has added a new video of the onboard camera from Supercar Challenge. The movie shows an Aston Martin DBR9 tackling the Nurburgring GP circuit.
Good news racing fans – Sony are just about to flick the switch on a major new Ferrari Challenge update. The patch fixes a huge number of bugs but most importantly it adds 46 PlayStation Network trophies to the game, giving everyone another reason to try to finish the game.
PS3Trophies.org has a complete list of all of the trophies which of course are classified Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. The update will be going live later today.
The time has come for another game to roll onto The Weigh Bridge as we look at its merits and failings. Ferrari Challenge Trofeo Pirelli is the much-delayed racer which features one manufacturer but plenty of tracks and which is possibly most famous for being released for every platform except Xbox 360. From the web of prancing horses:
IGN UK (83%) – “Race weekends encompass a qualifying session and two 15-minute endurance races – that, while plausibly faithful to the source, can prove infuriatingly time consuming. Whilst the option is present to reduce the races to more readily digestible five minute chunks, it remains a frustration throughout.”
Gameplanet (80%) – “Ferrari Challenge is a well-rounded driving package, and even though once again we find ourselves playing a modern racing simulator with inconsequential vehicular damage, the level of attention paid to the handling and overall accuracy more than makes up for it. Great fun, even if it is a bit anti-social.”
Eurogamer (70%) – “Overall though, Ferrari Challenge is a promising physics engine welded to a game that may be a little too anal for its own good. Dedicated followers of the brand will obviously find much to enjoy, as will those who like their racing dry and technical. It’s just a shame the game doesn’t do more to win over everyone else.”
